We don't make a photograph just with a camera; we bring to the act of photography all the books we have read, the movies we have seen, the music we have heard, the people we have loved. -Ansel Adams

It depends -- every good photo has a concept, which dictates the selection of a subject.

If the concept is feminine beauty, like we see here, we would go to find a model that is the embodiment of a divine beauty.

If the concept is pristine nature, we would go to find a subject fits that concept too, just like Ansel Adams did.

However, if the concept is peace and war, you don't need to find the most beautiful subject, but the scene that tells the story the best.

I think this is why we hear people say -- a good photographer doesn't take a photo, he makes a photo. He makes a photo because he produces an art work to present a concept, or an idea or whatever he wants to see, not what it is...

However, if you meant that a simple idea should be presented in a new way, not the same way 100 times. That I really agree. :D

good points. an artist's concept will determine the subject he/she chooses. then it is his/her technique that determines how well the concept is conveyed.

Great second point: even with the same model, many lesser photographers would fail. :D

So true.

Everyone see things in different ways based on his/her personal EXPERIENCES etc, and usually you can't capture what you see with your eyes with your camera.
If you do capture what you see with your camera, than you will be the best, at least you will be a very good photographer....

another good point. due to the physical limitations of the cameras and films, e.g., dynamic range, cameras can not always record what we really see. so post processing is really important, no matter you shoot film or digital.
