We don't make a photograph just with a camera; we bring to the act of photography all the books we have read, the movies we have seen, the music we have heard, the people we have loved. -Ansel Adams

Finally bite the bullet and ordered a Nikon D7000 to replace one of my aging D90. Thought long and hard about getting a D700 (D800, D3, D4s are all pie in the sky for me) but just don't see the need to spend the extra grand. I need to have higher shutter speed under low light conditions before resorting to use flash light. I am hoping the D7000 will enable me to focus better and produce sharper pictures. Anybody using D7000?

Congratulations~ D7000 is a great camera.

I think you meant D7000 has higher ISO sensitivity under low light conditions because higher shutter speed is not suitable under low light condition. However, a large aperture lens (i.e. f1.2) can let you shoot at slightly higher shutter speed to avoid blurry photos due to hand shake.

It would mean I have to use only prime lenses.

My understanding is that there are less noise in D7000 as compare to D90 and so 3200 ISO is more "practical". If I use 3200 ISO, stay with my 2.8 zoom lenses, there are more occasions where I can stay above 1/200 shutter before using a flash. In addition, D7000 can focus faster than the D90 which means I have to hold the camera steady for shorter period of time (before my hand starts to shake).

Kim you dont like VR lenses?
I dont know if that helps you at all...

another thing might be to carry a monopod all the time, at least it's easier to carry than tripod. Not sure if that's practical for you, but i suspect it will improve stability tremendously for u

I tried VR lenses and mono-pod. Neither one helped. The one thing that does helped is a Gimbal head (that's how I got that bee picture to be so sharp) and so I am using that whenever I can use a tripod. So far, 1/125 to 1/250 seems to be the key. If I drop below that, and if I can't use a tripod with the Gimbal head, I am in trouble. That's why I am hoping that the D7000 will offer me more opportunities to shoot sharper picture without the help of flash or tripod.
